Monterey County Joint Gang Task Force members found a loaded handgun in a car during a traffic stop in Salinas on Monday evening, Salinas police said. The car was pulled over at about 5:30 p.m. on North Main Street near Chaparral Street for a traffic violation. Police said the driver, Juan Villa, 30, was unlicensed. A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded handgun between the front seats.

The passenger in the vehicle, 44-year-old Jerry Moreno, was searched and found to be in possession of methamphetamine, police said. Villa and Moreno were arrested and booked into Monterey County Jail on drug and gun charges, according to police.
