A Chitimacha Police Officer Killed and Two St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Deputies Wounded in Louisiana

A Chitimacha tribal police officer was shot and killed in Charenton, Louisiana and two St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputies were critically wounded as they tried to backup the police officer. The officer and deputies were responding to a report of a man walking along the road with a gun.
The suspect identified as Wilbert Thibodeaux allegedly fired on them as they arrived on the scene. Thibodeaux was also wounded. He was taken to a local hospital, treated and released to be booked into jail. Police later found a 78 year old man dead in a nearby mobile home that had just been set on fire.
