An Oakland man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly robbed a man in San Leandro with a compact machine gun and stole the victim’s car, according to police. The carjacking occurred around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, as the victim was sitting in his vehicle on the 400 block of Bristol Avenue, according to Lt. Jeff Tudor. A suspect armed with a compact machine gun approached the victim and ordered him out of his car at gunpoint, Tudor said.

The suspect stole the victim’s cell phone and cash, and then drove away in his vehicle toward East 14th Street. The victim said the suspect was accompanied by another suspect driving a dark colored Honda Accord. Around 45 minutes later, Oakland police located both vehicles on the 900 block of 70th Avenue and detained a subject later identified as Oakland resident Alex Myers, Tudor said.

Myers, 22, was identified by the victim as the suspect in the carjacking. A second suspect was not located, despite a search of the area, Tudor said. The Honda Accord was found to have been stolen out of Morgan Hill. Myers was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen vehicle and a parole violation outstanding warrant, Tudor said.
