An 18-year-old man who was killed in what police said was a gang-related shooting in Watsonville last Friday has been identified by police as Marco Topete. Topete, a Watsonville resident, was found lying on the ground in the 200 block of Second Street after officers responded to a report of a shooting at 8:54 p.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are investing it as a gang-related shooting,” police Detective Sgt. Eric Taylor said. “The victim has loose ties to a street gang,” Taylor said. Taylor said investigators believe the victim was associated with the Sureno gang.
