San Rafael police have released a video and a photo of the man who tried to rob a cell phone and check cashing business on Saturday. The armed suspect entered Variedades Cellular at 26 Medway Road around 7 p.m., San Rafael police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said. Three store employees quickly retreated to a back room that is protected by bulletproof glass, Rohrbacher said.

The suspect tried to follow them and fired his gun in their direction, narrowly missing one of the employees, Rohrbacher said. No one was injured and the suspect immediately fled the business without any money, Rohrbacher said. The suspect is a black male in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a black hoodie with the hood pulled over his face, according to police.
