Police are looking for the driver of an SUV who was involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a man and injured a woman near the Salinas Municipal Airport on Sunday evening, police said. The male victim, who was driving a Honda Accord, had turned left from McGowan Drive to head south on South Sanborn Road when his car was hit on the driver’s side by a Chevy TrailBlazer traveling north on Sanborn, police said.
The accident, which was reported at 7:11 p.m., caused major damage to both vehicles but the driver of the SUV sped away from the scene, police said. The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the crash site. His female passenger was injured and later airlifted to a hospital in San Jose, but her condition was not immediately available. Neither victim has been identified. Police located the unoccupied TrailBlazer in a neighborhood nearby but the suspect is still at large, police said.
