Police in Scotts Valley arrested an Aptos man Friday after he attempted to receive a reward for stolen equipment taken from a job site in November last year, police said. On Nov. 25, 2012, a land surveyor left his surveying equipment at a job site on Scotts Valley Drive from two days prior, police said. When he returned to the site, his equipment, valued at about $9,000, was gone, according to police.

The victim put an ad out in a local news outlet offering a reward for the stolen equipment and recently received a response from a man, police said. The victim set up a meeting with the man Friday, Morrison Dean Stanton, 46, of Aptos, to meet in Scotts Valley, officials said.

The victim contacted the Scotts Valley police of the meet, and when he positively identified the equipment at the meet, officers arrested Stanton, police said. Stanton was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property.
