A man was found dead of gunshot wounds near Dimond Park in Oakland’s Glenview district early this morning, police said. A citizen called police at 3:04 a.m. to report that a man was down at Cannon Avenue and Wellington Street, according to police. The Oakland Fire Department responded and discovered that the man was already dead, police said. Police said they don’t have any more information on the homicide, such as the victim’s name, at this time. Oakland had 131 homicides in 2012, including five that were ruled to be justifiable, but there weren’t any homicides the first six days of 2013.

However, the homicide today is the third since Monday. Oakland police said there was an unrelated shooting at 2:33 a.m. today in the 2300 block of East 17th Street. Police said the victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds but was awake and conscious and was transported to a local hospital. Police said the suspect or suspects haven’t been arrested and they have no other details on the shooting at this time.
