A reputed street gang member was sentenced to a lengthy prison term Friday in Santa Rosa following his conviction on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with gang enhancements, according to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office. Rudy Flores, 22, of Santa Rosa, an alleged member of the Norteno street gang, received a term of 11 years and eight months in prison from Sonoma County Judge Kenneth Gnoss in connection with brutal assaults at a gas station in 2011, the district attorney’s office said.

On May 22, 2011, numerous members of the Norteno gang attacked a group of male victims at a Shell Gas Station at 2005 Guerneville Road in Santa Rosa, the district attorney’s office said. One of the victims was stabbed many times and then suffered a ruptured eyeball after an assailant threw a paving stone down at him while he lay on the ground, the district attorney’s office said. Another suspect used a knife to slash a second victim on his back and a third suspect hit another victim with a tire iron in the gang-related attack, the district attorney’s office said.

During his trial, Flores apologized to Judge Gnoss and admitted that his membership in a street gang contributed to his incarceration, the district attorney’s office said. “This successful prosecution is the result of a coordinated effort between Santa Rosa Police Department and this office to reduce gang violence in our community,” District Attorney Jill Ravitch said in a prepared statement.
