A known gang member was arrested in Castroville earlier this week after police found him to be in possession of a loaded gun, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, members of the county’s Joint Gang Task Force were patrolling the area of Union and Geil streets in Castroville when they saw a known gang member, identified as 21-year-old Jorge Luis Alvarez, on foot, sheriff’s deputies said.

As patrol cars headed in his direction, Alvarez attempted to hide behind a fence. Deputies then contacted him and determined that he was on active felony probation. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies also found Alvarez to be in possession of a loaded revolver.
