Sheriff’s deputies are investigating whether a gunshot wound that killed a man in El Sobrante on New Year’s Day was self-inflicted, a sheriff’s sergeant said. Deputies were called around 5:35 p.m. Tuesday to an apartment in the 4600 block of Appian Way in El Sobrante on a report of a disturbance there involving a person with a gun, Sgt. David Adams said.
Arriving deputies located a man, identified only as a black male adult in his 20s, inside the apartment suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Contra Costa County coroner’s office is investigating whether the fatal gunshot wound was self-inflicted, Adams said.
