Some residents in a North Oakland neighborhood were evacuated Sunday as a bomb squad worked to remove World War II-era explosives from a home, a police spokeswoman said. Authorities were called to a home in the 900 block of 37th Street in Oakland around 1 p.m. after a citizen requested to turn in roughly 5.5 pounds of TNT, police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said. The Alameda County Bomb Squad responded, closing off the 900 blocks of 36th and 37th streets. Some residents in the area were evacuated as the bomb squad removed the explosives.
