El Cerrito Police Shoot Man Allegedly Pistol Whipping Woman

A man who allegedly pistol-whipped a woman in El Cerrito Thursday night is in critical condition after being shot by police officers. Officers were called to a report of a man and woman involved in an argument around 6:40 p.m., according to police. Police said that as officers responded to the scene, they received new reports of the man beating the woman behind the Chevron gas station at San Pablo and Potrero avenues.
Officers arriving on the scene saw a man pistol-whipping a woman. Two officers fired at the man, hitting him. He was taken to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition early this morning, police said. Police said the officers involved in the shooting have eight years of combined law enforcement experience. No further information was immediately available.
