A woman was arrested in Salinas on a felony gun theft charge Sunday after a sheriff’s deputy spotted a pistol with a loaded extended magazine in her purse, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Brittney Minor, 21, of Galt, Calif., was driving north on U.S. Highway 101 at 1:36 a.m. when a deputy saw her toss a lit cigarette from her car and pulled her over near Vierra Canyon Road, deputies said.
Minor opened her purse to remove her driver’s license when the deputy noticed a .40 caliber Glock model 23 handgun with a fully-loaded extended magazine of bullets, deputies said. The deputies then determined that the gun had been stolen in Oakland, deputies said.
When asked about it, Minor said she had no idea how the stolen firearm got into her purse, deputies said. Minor was arrested for possession of a stolen, loaded handgun, and booked into the Monterey County Jail, deputies said. J
