Police at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill are offering a $5,000 reward for information about an incident in which a police services officer was injured by a small metallic object on campus earlier this month. On Dec. 3, Contra Costa Community College District police services Officer Trina Gaines was hit in the face by the object while on duty at the school located at 321 Golf Club Road. Gaines was taken to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Walnut Creek to be treated for her injuries and later returned to campus to help investigate the incident, according to police.

Police said they do not have any witness accounts of what happened but believe that someone lobbed the object at Gaines in a targeted attack. Police services spokesman Tim Leong said that police have still not conclusively identified the object used in the attack and do not have any leads. “We believe there should be some students who know something about it, and hopefully this reward will help them to share some information,” Leong said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Diablo Valley College police services at (925) 685-1230, ext. 2338 or at ext. 1999 to leave an anonymous tip.
