BART service was temporarily disrupted this afternoon as BART police looked for a suspected cellphone thief at the 19th Street BART station, police said. The thief snatched a cellphone from a victim at Oakland’s Rockridge BART station and quickly boarded a train heading towards Fremont.

BART police intercepted the train at the 19th Street station and pulled several possible suspects from the train, however none were positively identified as the thief by the victim, according to police. The thief was never found, nor was the stolen cellphone. The victim was not injured during the theft. There were 10-minute delays in service while police looked for the suspect, but as of shortly before 5 p.m. service had resumed normally, according to BART police.
