The Santa Cruz County coroner’s office reported today that the body of a man found floating in Soquel Creek in Capitola on Nov. 30 has been identified as Christian Dewaard of Watsonville. Investigators determined that Dewaard, 47, died due to accidental drowning during heavy rainstorms that hit the Central Coast recently, the coroner’s office reported. Dewaard’s body was recovered after a passerby observed it at about 11 a.m. floating in Soquel Creek just west of the Nob Hill Foods store at 809 Bay Ave., the coroner’s office reported.
