Roelin Gervacio Arrested After Fleeing From Police After Intruding Benicia School Campus

Published by on December 5, 2012

Police arrested a man who showed up on the campus of Benicia Middle School on Monday morning, then fled when police were called. School staff contacted police at 8:50 a.m. about a man on the blacktop near a physical education class on the east side of campus, located at 1100 Southampton Road, Lt. Frank Hartig said. Staff members approached the man, later identified as Roelin Gervacio, 25, of Benicia, and he left when he learned the school’s main office was being notified of his presence, Hartig said. There was no physical contact between Gervacio and staff or students, Hartig said. Officers arrived as Gervacio was leaving, and he made brief contact with one of the officers before fleeing toward the Southampton Shopping Center, Hartig said.

Police followed him in their vehicles and saw him enter the Raley’s supermarket at 890 Southampton Road, Hartig said. Inside the store, Gervacio knocked items off shelves as he headed to the rear of the store, where he was taken into custody, Hartig said. He was booked into Solano County Jail for disrupting school activity, vandalism causing less than $400 in damage and delaying or resisting police, Hartig said. Before he was taken to jail, he was examined and medically cleared at a hospital as a precaution. “He ran a considerable distance, was involved in a very brief struggle with an arresting officer, and his overall behavior was a concern, so he was medically cleared before being booked into jail,” Hartig said a statement. Gervacio did not give a statement to police and it is unknown why he went onto the middle school campus, Hartig said.
