Oakland police have called off the search tonight for three or four suspects who fled from police near Emeryville and later crashed their car east of Lake Merritt. The pursuit started when police attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be associated with a gang near the corner of West MacArthur Boulevard and Market Street shortly before 4 p.m., police said.

The suspects fled and officers broke off their pursuit for fear of endangering public safety, Officer Johnna Watson said. However, the suspects later crashed their car near the intersection of MacArthur and Park boulevards, Watson said. No one was injured in the crash. The three or four suspects left the car and fled into different yards, Watson said. Police searched the area but did not find the suspects.
