A 19-year-old man was arrested Friday after allegedly burglarizing two Santa Rosa homes and making off with rifles, electronics and other items, police said. Officers were called around 9:30 a.m. Friday to a home in the 2000 block of Firwood Avenue where a resident reported that someone had burglarized their home. The resident, who was at home at the time of the burglary, confronted the suspects, who fled the property with four stolen rifles, according to police.

Police said witnesses gave information that led officers to the 1500 block of Yardley Street, where they located a car in the driveway that matched the suspects’ vehicle description. A man fled the home on Yardley Street and police gave chase, detaining him in a nearby park. Officers determined that the man was the owner of the suspect vehicle, where they found evidence that led them to a home in the 2300 block of Teasdale Lane, where they discovered an unreported burglary, police said.

Police determined that a rifle, electronics and personal items had been stolen from the home on Teasdale Lane. In their investigation, police recovered a total of five firearms taken from both the Firwood Avenue and Teasdale Lane burglaries. The suspect, identified as Santa Rosa resident Christopher Jonathan Ortiz, was arrested and taken to Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, felony probation violation, weapons violations and gang enhancements.
