Police arrested six suspects Friday in connection with a gang-related assault that occurred at a park in Santa Rosa on Tuesday, according to Santa Rosa police. Police responded to Southwest Community Park, located in the 1600 block of Hearn Avenue at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday. An 18-year-old man with moderate injuries was found at the scene and transported to a hospital for treatment. A 15-year-old female victim and the suspects had fled the scene before police arrived, according to police.
The incident was determined to be gang-related and the Santa Rosa Police Department Gang Crimes Team took over the investigation. Based on interviews with witnesses and victims, police determined that the man and woman victims were walking through the park when 15 Sureno gang members approached them. The group circled the couple and attacked the man. The suspects used a club and something sharp to injure the man, police said.
Police said the gang of suspects punched, kicked and threatened the woman victim, causing her minor injuries. On Friday, detectives made six arrests related to the assault. Police arrested five juvenile males on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and gang enhancements. One female juvenile was arrested on suspicion of challenging to fight in a public place and gang enhancements. All six suspects were booked into Sonoma County Juvenile Hall.
