A man was arrested after allegedly robbing an acquaintance at gunpoint in Sonoma on Tuesday evening, police said. A woman walked into the Police Department to report that she had been robbed at gunpoint in the Sonoma Market Shopping Center at about 5:15 p.m., according to police. The woman claimed she got into a car and the man, Joseph Kauth, 22, of Sonoma, took out a small caliber gun and demanded her money, police said.

The victim gave Kauth $1,200 and was then dropped off nearby. Kauth then threatened to kill the victim if she told anyone, according to a police report. Kauth was located driving near Fifth Street West and Andrieux Street, and was flagged down and subsequently arrested, police said.

Police allegedly found a loaded .22-caliber handgun in the car, as well as a large sum of cash. As Kauth was being booked into the Sonoma County jail, a deputy located a .22-caliber bullet matching the gun found in the car, as well as methamphetamine and heroin hidden in his clothes, police said. Kauth was booked into the jail on suspicion of robbery, threats, being an ex-felon in possession of a handgun, possession of a loaded gun in a vehicle, a parole hold, possession of a controlled substance and bringing drugs into a detention facility.
