Police have identified a pedestrian who was hit by a car in west Santa Rosa early Sunday morning as 49-year-old Robert Brian Mckee. Mckee, a resident of Redwood Valley in Mendocino County, was in critical condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital as of Sunday afternoon, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Rich Celli said. An update on his condition was not immediately available this morning.
Mckee suffered broken legs, fractured vertebrae, and head and facial injuries, Celli said. Police said Mckee was struck by a Chevrolet Impala near the intersection of Guerneville Road and Coffey Lane around 12:20 a.m. Sunday. A witness called 911 and gave the dispatcher a general description of the car, and said it headed east after hitting the pedestrian, police said.
A patrol officer found the Chevrolet at the intersection of Range Avenue and Steele Lane. It had front-end damage and a broken windshield, Celli said. Police arrested the driver, Christian Pena Ballesteros, 30, of Santa Rosa, on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence and violating his probation for a prior DUI conviction, Celli said. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court.
