A 32-year-old man was arrested in Belmont early Wednesday morning on suspicion of attempted theft and possession of stolen property after an alert woman reported seeing him inside her neighbor’s parked car, police said. Officers responded around 4:05 a.m. to the 1500 block of Sunnyslope Avenue where the neighbor had reported the suspicious incident.

A short time later, officers detained a man near the intersection of Sunnyslope Avenue and Lane Street and identified him as Richard Heinz, 32, of San Mateo, police said. Investigators believe Heinz entered three unlocked cars in the 1500 block of Sunnyslope Avenue and may be linked to another theft from an unlocked car in the 900 block of Ruth Avenue earlier in the morning, according to police.
