Officers found a 20-year-old Pittsburg man dead on the sidewalk near Railroad Avenue Sunday evening, Pittsburg police said. Shortly after 9 p.m., police responded to a call of a man lying on the sidewalk in the 100 block of West Buchanan Road, Lt. Ron Raman said. Officers found Justin Gibbs, 20, of Pittsburg lying in the street and unresponsive.
He was pronounced dead at the scene after succumbing to a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Raman said. It is believed Gibbs came into contact with the suspect on West Buchanan when he was shot, Raman said. Gibbs had recently moved to Pittsburg from Concord and previously Southern California. He was not part of a witness protection program, Raman said. Police have limited leads and have not identified a suspect.
