A masked man assaulted a woman early Friday morning in Pacheco, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s officials said a 35-year-old woman was walking in the 4800 block of Blum Road to an apartment complex at about 3:30 a.m. when she was assaulted. The victim told sheriff’s deputies that she had heard footsteps and when she turned to look behind her, she was struck in the head with a blunt object.

The victim was able to make it to her friend’s residence and was transported to the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center in Martinez by ambulance, officials said. The victim suffered a head injury but is in stable condition, according to sheriff’s officials. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search of the area but did not find the suspect or witnesses. The suspect was described as a man of unknown race, standing about 6 feet tall and wearing a black hoodie, dark jeans and a white mask, officials said.
