A Pleasant Hill man was arrested Wednesday evening after fleeing from a police officer who spotted him driving a stolen car, police said. Around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, an officer was patrolling the area of Contra Costa Boulevard near Taylor Boulevard when her license plate reader detected a passing 2-door Honda sedan that was recently reported stolen, police said.

Police followed the Honda into the Gregory Village Shopping Center parking lot, where the driver parked and two men jumped out of the car and started running. Officers chased the car’s driver, identified as 32-year-old Brian Griggs, into a Taco Bell restaurant across the street, where he was apprehended without incident.

Meanwhile, the passenger fled west on Doris Drive. Police set up a perimeter around the area and searched for the man with the help of a police K-9, but were unable to locate him. Griggs was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, delaying officers, an outstanding felony warrant and a parole violation. He was taken to county jail in Martinez, police said.
