A suspected bicycle thief was arrested in Sausalito earlier this week after an alert witness aboard a Golden Gate Transit bus reported him, police said. At 3:21 p.m. Tuesday, a witness reported that when he was riding the bus from San Francisco to Sausalito, he had seen a man get off the bus while carrying a backpack, according to police.
A half-hour later, the witness saw the same man get on another bus headed back to San Francisco with a bicycle in his possession and became suspicious, police said. Officers responded to the area and contacted Edgar Calhoun, a 57-year-old Oakland man.
Calhoun initially gave the officers a false name and was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia along with the bike, which police believe was stolen. Calhoun was wanted on a no-bail warrant and was also arrested on suspicion of providing false identification to a police officer and failure to register with Marin County as a sex registrant, police said. Sausalito police are still trying to locate the owner of the stolen bicycle.
