Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who robbed a credit union in Palo Alto late Wednesday morning. Palo Alto police received multiple 911 calls at 11:08 a.m. from witnesses to a robbery at the Star One Credit Union at 3903 El Camino Real. Officers arrived at the scene within a minute of being dispatched, but the suspect had already fled, police said.
They searched the area but were unable to locate the robber. Police said the suspect entered the bank, jumped over the teller counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash before jumping back over the counter and running away, heading east on Ventura Avenue, police said. Multiple people saw the robbery happen, and one witness reported seeing the suspect holding a handgun, police said.
Witnesses described the robber as a black man between 35 and 30 years old, weighing about 175 to 180 pounds and standing between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He had short, close-cropped hair. He was wearing a pair of reflective sunglasses, a dark short-sleeve polo shirt, baggy blue jeans, and two-toned blue and white tennis shoes, police said.
