Police have released the names of three recent homicide victims who were killed during a string of gun violence that left five dead between Monday night and Tuesday afternoon. The two victims in a double homicide reported early Tuesday morning were identified as Robert Dell Jr., 23, and Deshawn Sutton, 27, police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said. Dell and Sutton were killed while sitting in a parked car in the 1600 block of 72nd Avenue at 6:06 a.m. when someone approached the vehicle and shot them.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Police also identified the victim in a Monday night fatal shooting in the Dimond District as 26-year-old Herron A. Adams Jr., of Oakland. Adams was shot at 2020 MacArthur Blvd. at 10:20 p.m also while sitting in a parked car and was pronounced dead at the scene. An employee at the Two Star Market at 2020 MacArthur Blvd. said the vehicle had been parked in front of the store. A window at the market was broken in the shooting, but no one at the store was injured, he said. Still unidentified is a man shot about an hour and a half before that shooting in the 9000 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
The Oakland resident was pronounced dead after he was shot at 8:56 p.m. along with an Oakland woman. The two were shot while sitting in a parked there. The man was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. The woman walked away from the scene before calling police from a different location. She was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive. An employee at Harry’s Drive-In Liquor at 9002 MacArthur Blvd. said the shooting occurred in the store’s parking lot. In an unrelated incident at nearby 90th Avenue and International Boulevard, a 14-year-old girl was injured by shattered glass when someone opened fire at the car she was sitting in, according to Watson.
The incident happened between 9 and 10 p.m., shortly after the shooting at Harry’s Drive-In Liquor. A man shot and killed while sitting outside of a home on Tuesday afternoon also remains unidentified. That shooting was reported in the 1500 block of 57th Avenue at 2:42 p.m., police said. The man was found there and pronounced dead at the scene. Shell casings littered the street in front of the house, and three people were detained at the scene, but police have not confirmed whether any arrests were made.
