A mother wanted by authorities after she fled with her infant son after an alleged shoplifting attempt with her 10-year-old daughter at a Morgan Hill grocery store earlier this month was found and arrested in Nevada Friday night, local authorities said. Marcy Keelin, 38, was wanted on a $50,000 warrant in connection with a Sept. 19 incident in which she allegedly used her 10-year-old daughter to help her shoplift and then abandoned the girl when they were caught, Morgan Hill police said. Keelin was tracked down to a Super 8 motel at 1350 Newlands Drive West in Fernley, Nev., and arrested at 10:57 p.m. Friday on an out-of-state felony warrant, according to Lyon County sheriff’s officials. Fernley is about 30 miles east of Reno, Nev. In the Sept. 19 incident in Morgan Hill, police say Keelin told her daughter to wait near exit doors of the Safeway at 235 Tennant Station.
However, when the girl saw her mother’s car pull up and the girl pushed the cart outside the store, the daughter was confronted by store employees. Keelin saw this and allegedly drove away and left the girl behind. Keelin had been on the lam since that day. On Friday authorities learned that she had her 11-month-old son Ashton Keelin with her, Morgan Hill police said. Police issue an alert warning that the boy could be in danger and asked law enforcement to be on the lookout for Keelin. Keelin was believed to be traveling with a man who is possibly her boyfriend, Eldon Price, Morgan Hill police said. He does not appear to be related to the children.
Police around 4 p.m. Friday received reports that the pair had been seen in the Reno, Nev., area and followed up on those leads Morgan Hill police said. Keelin has allegedly stolen from other stores before. Security videos from a Safeway store revealed that in early September, Keelin and her daughter managed to successfully steal a cart full of groceries, Morgan Hill police said. Following the shoplifting attempt, the girl was put in the care of her grandmother. Information about the infant boy and Price was not immediately available.
