A sixth grade teacher was arrested Wednesday morning in Albany on suspicion of a lewd act with a child under 14, police said. Police arrested James Izumizaki, 28, of Albany at his residence shortly after 7 a.m. The arrest warrant was the result of an investigation into reports that Izumizaki, who has been employed as a teacher and coach at Albany Middle School for several years, had an inappropriate relationship with a former student.
Izumizaki was turned over to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office after his arrest and is being held on $100,000 bail. The case remains under investigation and police encourage anyone with information about this case or about any inappropriate conduct or contact between the suspect and minors, to contact police at (510) 528-5783.
