Two people were killed and one person was injured in a shooting at a grocery store parking lot in Soledad Wednesday night, according to Soledad police. Police received a report of multiple gunshot victims at 8:36 p.m. at the Foods Co. shopping center, at 2443 H. De la Rosa Sr. Street, near the intersection with Nestles Road. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located three victims with gunshot wounds to their upper torsos.
Paramedics arrived on scene and began CPR on Maria Del Refugio Monroy, 55, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Paramedics initiated CPR on the second victim, Silverio Perez Selendon, 58, and transported him to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to police. The third victim, a 19-year-old Hispanic man was transported to a hospital for surgery and is in critical condition, according to police.
Initial investigations revealed that the victims had returned to their car from the grocery store. Witnesses said one suspect wearing a light colored, hooded sweatshirt walked up to the victims’ vehicle and discharged multiple rounds of ammunition into the vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot. A light-colored, four-door sedan Volkswagen Jetta was also seen fleeing the area, police said. One of the victims appears to be a known gang member, but it is unknown if he still remained an active member or if the shooting is gang-related.
