An armed burglary suspect barricaded in a home has prompted road closures in West Oakland this afternoon, an Oakland police spokeswoman said. Officers have established a perimeter in the 1400 block of 12th Street for a standoff with an armed burglary suspect, Officer Johnna Watson said. Police said several streets are being blocked off for safety precautions.

There is no access between Center Street and Mandela Parkway from 11th Street to 14th Street, as well as between Mandela Parkway and Kirkham Street on 12th Street, a police dispatcher said. Alameda-Contra Costa Transit buses have been notified of the closures and are being rerouted.

A man answering the phone at Cypress Grocery, located at 933 Mandela Parkway, said as of 1:30 p.m. that there were “a lot of police” outside the store. He said Mandela Parkway between Ninth and 10th streets was blocked off with yellow police tape.
