A man was fatally shot in Salinas on Wednesday evening, according to police. The shooting was reported around 6 p.m. in the 300 block of North Main Street. Officers arrived to find a man in his mid 20s lying on the sidewalk and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, whose name is not yet being released, was later pronounced dead by medical personnel, police said.

Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic man between 30 and 40 years old who was wearing a red shirt and dark pants. He was last seen running behind the Salvation Army store on North Main Street toward Bridge Street, police said. The homicide is the 15th of the year in Salinas.
