A man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a gold chain from a person in East Oakland Thursday evening, Oakland police said. At about 6:40 p.m. on Thursday, problem-solving officers, who were near the 1400 block of Auseon Avenue, saw a suspect running away from a citizen while holding a gold chain. The citizen told the officers he had just been robbed, police said.

Officers quickly established a perimeter and with the help of other patrol officers and the public they were able to find and arrest the suspect, according to police. The suspect had attempted to conceal himself within the perimeter, police said. Officers also were able to recover the citizen’s gold chain, according to authorities. Police aren’t releasing the suspect’s name at this time.

They said they are investigating whether he has committed similar crimes. Oakland police said their investigation of the case is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the major crimes section at (510) 238-3326.
