Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting his friend in unincorporated Hayward on Monday, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting was reported at about 9:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Bartlett Avenue. The victim, identified as Tony Jones, 20, was found there and pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives said that the investigation led them to Stacy Fixico, 20, of San Lorenzo.
Fixico and another man had been nearby shooting a .22 caliber gun in the air on the grounds of Royal Sunset High School. After that, the two men met with Jones and the three of them were smoking marijuana together on a balcony on Bartlett Avenue. It was there that sheriff’s officials believe that Fixico shot Jones. Sheriff’s deputies then recalled a recent burglary at a residence in San Lorenzo near where Fixico lived.
During that burglary, a .22 caliber handgun and a vintage World War II U.S. Navy knife were stolen. Detectives discovered the 93-year-old World War II veteran’s possessions from the burglary during a search of Fixico’s home, sheriff’s officials said. Fixico was booked into Santa Rita Jail on burglary charges and the Alameda County District Attorney’s office is reviewing murder charges, sheriff’s officials said.
