A man was arrested in Fremont’s Niles district after stabbing a man in the neck with a clothes iron Saturday night, a police spokeswoman said. Police responded to a call of an altercation between two men in the first block of G Street at about 4:30 a.m., Officer Geneva Bosques said. The two men, a 31-year-old and 37-year-old, both of Fremont, escalated from arguing to punches, Bosques said.

The 37-year-old man then grabbed an iron and stabbed the 31-year-old in the neck with the pointed end of the appliance, she said. The victim left the scene in a pickup truck and was flagged down by police nearby on Niles Boulevard, the officer said. He was treated at a hospital where he is expected to survive, she said.

Bosques said officers found the suspect at the home of the altercation and he surrendered without incident. He was booked at the Fremont Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, she said.
