Officers arrested two suspects in a stolen vehicle after a brief pursuit Wednesday morning on suspicion of conducting an armed carjacking on Aug. 17, police said. Oakland police and California Highway Patrol officers observed the stolen vehicle in the 900 block of 76th Avenue around 12 a.m. on Wednesday. After a short pursuit, officers were able to stop and arrest the vehicle’s two occupants.
Investigators have identified Robert Cole Jr., 25, of Oakland in connection with the Aug. 17 carjacking and continue to investigate the involvement of the second subject, police said. Officers found both a firearm and a replica firearm upon searching the vehicle.
The carjacking on Aug. 17 occurred around 11:30 p.m. when two armed suspects robbed a family of their vehicle in the 3800 block of Foothill Boulevard. One of the suspects fired his weapon, but the family escaped unharmed. The two suspects fled the scene with the vehicle, police said.
