Investigators are trying to identify a man who shot a liquor store clerk in Castroville while attempting to rob the store on Sunday night, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to the store, located at 10784 Merritt St., just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses told investigators that the suspect had entered the open business, pointed a revolver at a clerk and demanded cash. The clerk fled, and the suspect gave chase, following the clerk outside, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect then fired three rounds at the clerk, hitting the victim once in the ear.
The clerk was treated at the scene for tissue damage and was later taken to a hospital for further treatment, sheriff’s officials said. The suspect fled after the shooting and remained at large this morning. He is described as a Hispanic man in his early to mid-20s who is roughly 6 feet tall and between 170 and 190 pounds. He was wearing a white bandana over his face and a red hoodedsweatshirt pulled over his head.
