A Watsonville woman was carjacked by a man or teen wearing a black ski mask early this morning, according to police. The victim was sitting in a car parked at Anna Street and Hangar Way just before 2:30 p.m. when she was approached by a male wearing a mask who demanded she give him the car, Watsonville police Sgt. Eric Taylor said. When she refused, the man tried to force her out and push her into the passenger seat, but the woman was able to escape without injury as he drove away, Taylor said.
Around 20 minutes later, police spotted the stolen car near Freedom Boulevard and Landis Avenue and attempted a stop. The driver escaped into a wooded area, but police were able to capture a passenger, a male juvenile who was also wearing a black ski mask.
The driver has not been located, although his ski mask was found on the driver’s seat along with other “useful physical evidence,” Taylor said. The juvenile was arrested on suspicion of fleeing form the stolen car and possession of stolen property, and booked into juvenile hall.
