A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in Richmond on Sunday night, and police have made an arrest in the case, a police lieutenant said. Police received reports of shots fired around 9:30 p.m. Sunday at 121 Macdonald Ave., where officers located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as 16-year-old Ulyses Grijalva, was pronounced dead at the scene, Lt. Bisa French said. A male who was standing next to Grijalva at the time of the shooting was grazed by a bullet but was not seriously injured, according to police.
Later Sunday, officers located and apprehended a suspect in the shooting, who is being interviewed by police this morning. That suspect’s name has not been released. French said police are attempting to determine whether the shooting was gang-related, and are searching for a potential second suspect. The shooting drew a crowd of roughly 100 people, prompting Richmond police to call for additional aid, French said.
