A shooting at a marijuana grow house in downtown Oakland early this morning left one person dead and another being questioned by police, a police spokeswoman said. Police responded to the 300 block of Seventh Street after neighbors heard gunshots coming from a home there at 4:39 a.m., Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said. When police arrived, they found a man dead inside the residence. Officers also recovered a weapon at the scene, Watson said.
One person who was living at that address was taken to nearby Oakland police headquarters and is meeting with investigators. The person told police that at about 4:30 a.m., an intruder came into his home, Watson said. Police are still looking into the circumstances of the intrusion and believe there may be additional people involved. Officers found a marijuana grow inside the home and are looking into whether the grow is legal. The resident provided paperwork, but police are attempting to verify the documents, Watson said.
