A 21-year-old man is in critical condition after a gang fight in Watsonville broke out Wednesday evening, police said. At 6:13 p.m. Watsonville police were dispatched to Pajaro Bridge on Main Street, about two blocks from the Watsonville police station on report of a gang fight involving roughly 20 subjects. Officers arrived on scene to find a group of males running east in the area of a nearby levee toward Lincoln Street.

Officers found an injured man in the area of Marchant Street, near the levee. Police said the man had multiple injuries to his head and was conscious, but did not cooperate with officers. Police investigations revealed that a large group of subjects approached two rival gang members and an armed fight ensued, causing injury to the 21-year-old victim. Police have not determined the cause of the man’s injuries. The injured man was transported by air ambulance to a Bay Area trauma center for further treatment. The man suffered life-threatening wounds and remains in critical condition, police said.
