The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is still investigating what it called an “explosive device” that was found in a toolbox in the back of a pickup truck on Mary Place on Tuesday night. The truck’s owner is separated from his wife and lives in Marin County, but he called his family in Rohnert Park to inform them that there was an explosive device in the parked truck, Lt. Jeff Taylor said. The family called the Department of Public Safety, which asked the University of California at Berkeley bomb squad to respond, Taylor said.
The neighborhood was evacuated for about two hours while the device was removed and secured, police said. The truck owner has not been arrested, and police are not yet disclosing what the device was, Taylor said. “Whether the explosive device was inert or real is under investigation,” Taylor said.
