A 21-year-old man accused of kidnapping and murdering Morgan Hill teenager Sierra LaMar appeared in Santa Clara County Superior Court again this morning but did not enter a plea. Antolin Garcia-Torres has been charged with murder with the special circumstance of committing the murder during a kidnapping. He is being held without bail in Santa Clara County Jail. Sierra, 15, went missing after leaving home to take the bus to school the morning of March 16.
She has not been found but is believed to have been murdered, and Garcia-Torres was arrested on May 21 and charged with killing her after DNA believed to be that of Sierra was found in his red Volkswagen Jetta. After Garcia-Torres was arrested, Sheriff Laurie Smith said at a news conference that it does not appear that the former Safeway worker and the missing teen knew each other. Volunteer search efforts for Sierra are continuing, and a sheriff’s dive team has searched a number of local reservoirs as part of the investigation.
