A man killed in a shooting in Watsonville early Wednesday morning has been identified as Dominic Mower, police said. Mower, 37, of Watsonville, was gunned down on Prospect Avenue, Sgt. Saul Gonzalez said. Police initially responded to a report around 3 a.m. that a woman had been shot.
Officers arrived and found a 22-year-old woman in the 100 block of Prospect Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound, Gonzalez said. She was transported to a Bay Area hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, he said. The woman was unable to tell police what happened because of her condition, Gonzalez said. Police followed a blood trail leading to the 200 block of Prospect, where they found Mower, who had been shot multiple times.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting marks Watsonville’s first homicide of the year. No motive has been determined and there are no leads on a suspect, Gonzalez said. The investigation is ongoing. “We believe someone out there knows what happened and hope they can contact us to lead us in the right direction,” Gonzalez said.
