Watsonville police are investigating an early morning shooting in which a man was killed and a woman was seriously injured. Just after 3 a.m. today, police responded to reports of a woman shot in the 100 block of Prospect Avenue. There, they found a 22-year-old Santa Cruz woman suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.
Officers followed a trail of blood into a building in the 200 block of Prospect Avenue, where they found a 37-year-old Watsonville man with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. The fire department personnel arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said. The woman was taken to a Bay Area hospital for treatment, but was unable to tell police what happened because of her condition, police said. Police say they have no suspects in custody and few leads. The shooting marks Watsonville’s first homicide of the year.
