Police are investigating the theft of about $12,500 worth of tickets for this weekend’s Gilroy Garlic Festival, which will open this Friday through Sunday. According to Gilroy police, about 1,000 tickets were stolen from the Garlic Festival Association Office at 7473 Monterey Road sometime between June 5 and July 2. Of the stolen tickets, about half were for adults, the other half for children and senior admission.

Police say that some of the stolen tickets have been sold online and will not be honored at entrance gates. They also said none of the stolen tickets had been pre-sold by the festival association. The stolen adults tickets are labeled numbers 050001 through 050500, while the stolen children and senior tickets are labeled numbers 100001 through 100500. General admission tickets to the event cost $17 for adults and $8 for children and seniors.

Children under 6 years old have free admission. Police noted that the Gilroy Garlic Festival raises a considerable amount of money for the community. According to the Garlic Festival’s website, it has given more than $9 million to local non-profits over the last 33 years. Police said they do not yet have a suspect in the case.
