A 49-year-old Petaluma man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly attempting to steal copper wire from the roof of an office building, police said. At about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to an alarm at a corporate office building in the 2200 block of Pine View Way, police said.
Police set up a perimeter around the building and spotted a man making his way along a ledge near the roof’s edge to avoid being seen. A team of officers searched the roof, detained the man and found that he had cut off multiple copper pipes attached to an air conditioning unit being installed on the roof, police said.
Officers arrested the suspect, Scott William Szody, on suspicion of felony vandalism, petty theft and trespassing and took him to Sonoma County Jail.
